Early in her career, Dejie Johnson sang in many of the Atlanta area's popular musical venues.

If you frequented Atlanta's music, cabaret and theatre scene in the '70's/'80's you may remember Dejie from appearances at popular venues like Gene & Gabe's, Showcase Cabaret, The Menagerie, Sheppards, Butterfields, Max's at the Omni, and her favorite cabaret room, Tyrones.

Dejie was spotted at Menagerie and Tyrone's and asked to sing in the review 'Java Jive and Blue Champagne' at Atlanta's Showcase Cabaret. That gig lead to playing the mealy-mouthed Melanie in Tom Edward's GWTW spoof 'Scarlett Fever' which was later reworked into 'Typhoid Fever' after the Margaret Mitchell estate issued a Cease and Desist.

After 'Typhoid Fever' came Part 2 of 'Della's Diner,' the popular country soap opera, with Dejie cast as Jo Casta, the slut from Chicago with the goods on Della's.

More highlights from that very creative and fun Atlanta hey-day are hosting Atlanta Arts Festival's 'Cabaret Night' in Piedmont Park and singing 'Stardust' in at Center for Puppetry Arts' 'Stardust' benefit. As a jazz fusion band singer at the Menagerie, Dejie's band "Miles" opened for Herb Albert and Gap Mangione's World Tour.
